Open Your Own Treasure House and Use Those Treasures!
Anybody around here have their own treasure house?
Can you imagine a house that’s maybe like the story book gingerbread house of Hansel and Gretl, where a house like that, in the mind of a child, would be considered a treasure house, because kids think of sweets probably before they even understand an abstract notion like…………..wealth?
What does a treasure house look like to you? Precious jewels, gold and silver goblets, strings of pearls spilling out of the doorways and windows? Tapestries of beautiful scenes? Or it could be a garage filled with a thousand Ferrari’s Rolls Royces, Mercedes Benzes. Or it could be a place with a huge table loaded with all sorts of delicacies.
But for kids, it might be a house made out of sweet ginger bread.
Kids are very in the moment, they like things concrete, real, that their senses relate to. Immediate.
Im–mediate. What’s that mean? It means, ‘Nothing in the middle’. Right here right now.
Here’s an example:
Daiju visited the master Baso in China. Baso asked: “What do you seek?”
“Enlightenment”, replied Daiju.
“You have your own treasure house. Why do you search outside?” Baso asked.
Daiju inquired: “Where is my treasure house?”
Baso answered: “What you are asking is your treasure house.”
Daiju was enlightened! Ever after he urged his friends: “Open your own treasure house and use those treasures.”
USE Those Treasures!
Seems cryptic, no?
What did Baso, the Zen Master mean, when he said, “What you are asking is your treasure house”?
When I was a little boy, my grandmother said to me, “You can ask your way to Kiev”. What did she mean?
The Zen Master and my Grandmother both pointed at the same thing. If you are where you are, but you want to be somewhere else, ask. The ability for us to ask is our greatest treasure.
Is This Your Greatest Treasure? King Midas turned everything he touched into gold, but he couldn’t eat gold!
Our own mind is our greatest treasure. If we know how to use it well, and take good care of it.
So how do we take good care of our mind? Well, same way as taking care of our body. We know that junk food is not conducive to good health and a fit body. We know we need to exercise our body, if we don’t want to be flabby. And conversely, if we are kinda flabby, then changing our diet and changing our behavior patterns, to get some exercise, will pay off.
So stop putting junk into your brain, and start exercising it.
What is junk food for the brain? It’s a lot like what junk food is for the body. Usually it is advertised, especially on TV. When you watch TV, you are allowing someone else’s ideas to go right into your brain. Usually without your thinking about it. So you’re watching the Superbowl, and some commercial comes on, to go eat some potato chips.
And you get hungry for some potato chips and run to the kitchen to get some snacks.
Would you die if you didn’t eat the potato chips? Of course not! It was just some advertisement to go convince you to eat something you don’t really need, and what will only add extra pounds. So there it is. Junk food for the mind –the advertisement–and junk food for the body. It’s acting out of compulsiveness, rather than FREE WILL.
Here is a tip, that will save you a lot of money and time, and immediately start to improve your mental state, and maybe even your intelligence.
Step ONE. Open your window.
Step TWO. Go over to your television set, or screen whatever it is.
Step THREE. Give your TV a big HUG.
Step FOUR. Walk over to the window.
Step FIVE. Extend your arms out the window.
Step Six. Open your arms.
Step SEVEN, Watch as your TV falls down and gets smashed (make sure no one was underneath it!!)
Congratulations! You have just freed yourself from getting PROGRAMMED to be the mental slave of an advertiser. Plus, most of what is on TV is either false, or trivial, or otherwise useless.
On the other hand, let’s go back to the story.
The Seeker is asking for help. He wants to be Enlightened. What’s that? That means to be living in the REAL world, not the dream world that we are living in, which we are programmed through our upbringing, culture, media, education, to believe in. That’s all OUTSIDE us.
Our own treasure house is US. Your own treasure house is YOU. Your body and mind, capable of doing great things, if you can only motivate yourself to do so. But it starts with seeing yourself as you are. Facing your good points and your weaknesses, and then aspiring to go beyond.
The wisdom of ages past points us to where we want to go.
We are our own treasure, and yet we have to think beyond ourselves, to our deepest aspiration.
I know it seems like a paradox, a contradiction. But that’s how it is.
It has been said, “You are perfect, just as you are, but there is always room for improvement.” So question is, if our own best self is our Treasure House, how do we open it up? The FREE Ebook gives all the details! Check out the order form and get yours now!
